Odisha Higher Education Department Warns Lecturers Against Negligence
The Odisha Higher Education Department has issued a stern warning to lecturers in government-aided colleges, cautioning them against idling, gossiping, or neglecting classroom duties during working hours.
The directive follows surprise inspections conducted on January 29, 2026, at two Sanskrit colleges in Cuttack, where officials found lecturers sitting idle and using mobile phones instead of engaging with students.
The department has made it clear that such negligence will not be tolerated and could result in strict disciplinary action, including withholding of salaries.
In a letter addressed to principals of all government-aided colleges, the department emphasised the importance of maintaining academic discipline and ensuring that faculty members adhere to teaching schedules.
Principals have been instructed to closely monitor attendance, classroom engagement, and overall academic functioning.
The department also announced that surprise inspections will be expanded to cover all government-aided higher educational institutions across the state.
Faculty members found absent, idle, or neglecting their responsibilities will face disciplinary proceedings.
Officials stressed that maintaining discipline and accountability among teaching staff is essential to uphold the quality of education and safeguard the academic future of students in Odisha.
