Odisha Health Minister urges Nadda to approve LoP for 100 MBBS seats each at PMPMC Talcher & GMC Phulbani
Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (UNI) Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling today urged Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda to grant the Letter of Permission (LoP) for the admission of 100 MBBS students each at Pavitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College (PMPMC), Talcher, and Government Medical College (GMC), Phulbani, for the 2025–26 academic session.
Mahaling made this request during a meeting with Nadda in New Delhi, focusing on further strengthening healthcare services in the state.
According to official sources, both institutions have been recently established to meet the rising demand for medical education in Odisha.
The Deans and Principals of the two colleges had already submitted their LoP applications on January 18, 2025, through the National Medical Commission (NMC) portal.
The NMC inspection teams visited Pavitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College, Talcher, on June 23, and Government Medical College, Phulbani, on May 28, 2025.
The state government has allocated the necessary budgetary support to upgrade facilities and ensure the delivery of quality medical education at both institutions.
If approved, the LoP will add two more government medical colleges to Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure, increasing the total number from 14 to 16.
Consequently, the total number of MBBS seats in government institutions will rise to 1,800.
