Odisha Health Minister Confirms Diarrhoea Outbreak Under Control

Odisha diarrhoea outbreak under control

Bhubaneswar(OT Webdesk): The diarrhoea outbreak in parts of Odisha has been brought under control, confirmed Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling following a detailed review with district administrations.

After a video conference with officials from Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak, Mahaling stated that contaminated water sources—identified as the primary cause—have been sealed off.

“Surveillance is ongoing, and the number of patients is on the decline,” he said.

Jajpur district currently reports 158 cases, prompting authorities to close educational institutions until June 24.

In Bhadrak, a two-day closure of schools and colleges has also been declared.

Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court has directed Cuttack Municipal Corporation to enforce stricter hygiene protocols in response to a public interest litigation.

Health inspectors have begun penalising vendors found selling unhygienic or stale food.

The government has intensified its awareness campaigns on safe drinking water and sanitation, urging community cooperation to eliminate the public health threat entirely.
