Odisha Govt Unveils Rs 300 Crore Plan to Transform Nicco Park into Urban Wellness Hub

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to urban rejuvenation, the Odisha government has finalized a Rs 250–300 crore redevelopment plan for BDA City Centre—formerly Nicco Park—into a state-of-the-art recreational and wellness destination.

The announcement came during Local Self-Governance Day celebrations, with Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra outlining the project’s scope and vision.

The transformation will unfold in three phases, beginning with infrastructure upgrades and beautification around Bhubaneswar Lake.

Planned features include modern lighting, landscaped gardens, dedicated cycling tracks, pedestrian walkways, and foot overbridges to improve accessibility.

A unique Ayurvedic and herbal park is also on the cards, alongside curated food courts and dining spaces.

Linked to this initiative is the Rs 200 crore modernisation of Storm Water Channel No. 10, which spans the City Centre and adjoining Lake Zone near Janpath.

This parallel project—already approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi—will introduce wastewater treatment facilities, roadside greenery, and enhanced stormwater management.

Officials say the combined efforts will not only elevate Bhubaneswar’s urban aesthetics but also create a sustainable, family-friendly leisure hub for residents and tourists alike.
