Odisha Govt Transfers Choudwar Jailor After High-Profile Prison Escape

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: In a swift administrative response, the Odisha government has transferred Santoshini Dash, jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail, following the escape of two undertrial prisoners accused in a murder case.

The jailbreak occurred on October 3, when Raja Sahani and Madhukanta Kumar—both transferred from Jajpur Jail—reportedly cut through the cell bars and fled the facility.

The incident triggered immediate disciplinary action and raised serious concerns about prison security protocols.

Dash has been reassigned to Kantabanji Sub-Jail in Balangir, while Raghuraj Majhi, previously posted there, will now take charge at Choudwar.

Additionally, two warders—Bhagat Ram and Siddhant Sahu—have been suspended for negligence.

The escape has spotlighted lapses in oversight and prompted calls for tighter security measures across Odisha’s correctional facilities.
