Odisha Govt to Provide Free Uniforms to Over 3 Lakh Shishu Vatika Children

(OT webdesk)In a major push toward inclusive early childhood education, the Odisha government has announced free uniforms and essential school supplies for all children enrolled in Shishu Vatikas across the state.

The initiative will benefit 3,10,839 children, providing them with uniforms, shoes, socks, T-shirts, track pants, caps, and identity cards.

The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has proposed Rs 1000 per child for the scheme and is awaiting final approval from the School and Mass Education Department. This move complements the existing Samagra Shiksha programme, which already allocates Rs 600 per student for uniforms from Class I to VIII.

With total government school enrolment reaching over 41 lakh for the 2025–26 academic year, the new initiative aims to reduce financial strain on economically weaker families and foster dignity and inclusion among young learners.

Officials emphasize that the program is designed to ensure equitable access to basic school necessities, reinforcing the state’s commitment to quality education from the foundational level.
