Odisha Govt to Issue SOP for Jagannath Temple Treasury Inventory

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: The Odisha government is set to release a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for conducting a comprehensive inventory of the Ratna Bhandar—the revered treasury of the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan confirmed the move on Sunday, stating that the process will be carried out within the confines of the Ratna Bhandar itself.

The inventory aims to document and ensure accountability for the temple’s vast collection of ornaments and historic valuables, including gold and silver items, precious stones, and other sacred artefacts.

The initiative had been postponed due to the high influx of devotees during the holy Kartika month, which concludes on November 5.

“The government will expedite the process post-Kartika. The SOP will be issued shortly to guide the inventory exercise,” Harichandan told reporters.

The Ratna Bhandar has long been a subject of public interest and spiritual significance, and the upcoming inventory marks a major step toward transparency and preservation of heritage.
