Odisha Govt Rules Out New Sub-Treasury Offices, Bets on Digital System

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced in the Assembly that the state government will not establish new sub-treasury offices.

He emphasised that pension disbursement, challan processing, and bill payments are now fully managed through the e-voucher system, eliminating the need for additional physical infrastructure.

Currently, Odisha operates 169 treasuries and 128 sub-treasuries, though 151 blocks remain without treasury offices.

Despite this gap, the government maintains that the digital system ensures accessibility, efficiency, and transparency.

The issue was raised during question hour by BJD legislator Manorama Mohanty, with support from BJP MLA Sanatan Bijuli and BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera.

Officials highlighted that the e-voucher system has streamlined financial operations, reduced paperwork, and modernised governance.

This move underscores Odisha’s commitment to digital transformation in public finance management, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen transparency and efficiency in governance.
