Odisha govt launches “Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana” to ease marriage burden for SC/ST families
Bhubaneswar, Feb 3 (UNI) In a significant step toward women’s welfare and social equity, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced the launch of the “Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana,” a scheme aimed at reducing the financial burden of daughters’ marriages for economically backward families, particularly those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister said that protecting the interests of the people of Odisha—especially ensuring a dignified and secure life for women- remains a top priority of his government.
He stated that the newly launched scheme would provide meaningful financial assistance so that the marriage of daughters does not become a source of stress for underprivileged parents.
Majhi emphasised that the initiative goes beyond monetary support. “Our effort is not limited merely to financial assistance; it will also play a major role in eliminating social evils like dowry and in fostering a respectful outlook toward daughters in society,” he said.
The Chief Minister further noted that the government is also promoting widow remarriage and making marriage registration mandatory to strengthen the social security of women across the state.
“Our goal is to remove the burden of worry from the shoulders of heads of economically disadvantaged families and to help daughters begin a new life with dignity and self-respect,” Majhi said, adding that the people’s government remains committed to the happiness and prosperity of all citizens.
