Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Jan 30: The Odisha government on Thursday launched a transformative umbrella scheme, ‘Bikashita Gaon Bikashita Odisha,’ aimed at bridging developmental gaps in the state’s villages.
With a substantial ₹5,000 crore outlay over five years, the scheme is designed to promote inclusive growth by addressing critical infrastructure and livelihood needs in rural areas. Official sources stated that the initiative seeks to boost rural infrastructure, enhance the quality of life, and foster economic growth for the holistic development of the state. The scheme prioritizes key areas such as rural road infrastructure, civic amenities, sports and educational facilities, and micro-tourism development.
A major focus of the scheme is on developing inter-village and intra-village roads, ensuring better connectivity and accessibility for residents. Additionally, community-driven initiatives will help create sustainable assets tailored to local needs. The initiative empowers rural communities to actively participate in planning, execution, and maintenance, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability in infrastructure projects. This approach is expected to significantly enhance rural development and contribute to the overall goal of a prosperous Odisha.
One of the primary objectives of the scheme is to provide road connectivity to unconnected villages and habitations, particularly in Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) areas, Naxal-affected regions, and remote hilly terrains.
The development of inter and intra-village roads, bridges, and culverts will be undertaken to bridge connectivity gaps and enhance accessibility. Road infrastructure projects will be prioritized based on population density, economic activity, and geographical challenges to ensure maximum impact. With this initiative, the Odisha government aims to transform rural areas, strengthen infrastructure, and drive sustainable development across the state.
