Odisha Govt Launches Affordable Rental Housing Scheme for Urban Poor
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced an Affordable Rental Housing Scheme aimed at providing relief to low-income families struggling with rising rents in urban areas.
Under the initiative, two models will be implemented. In the first, unused government houses will be identified, renovated, and converted into rental units.
In the second, private institutions and individuals will be encouraged to construct homes and offer them at affordable rents.
Working women will be given priority under the scheme, ensuring safer and more stable housing opportunities.
The program is being rolled out in alignment with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0, strengthening the state’s commitment to inclusive urban development.
Officials said the scheme is expected to benefit thousands of families across Odisha, improving living conditions and providing greater stability for economically weaker sections.
Detailed guidelines and application procedures will be released soon.
