Odisha Govt Confirms Probe Completion in Nepali Student’s Death at KIIT University
The Odisha government has informed the Orissa High Court that the investigation into the death of a Nepali student at KIIT University has been completed, with the chargesheet formally filed.
The accused in the case has already been arrested, officials told the court.
The incident, which occurred on February 16, sparked widespread concern and scrutiny due to its sensitive nature.
Following the tragedy, the Higher Education Department constituted a high-level committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the petitioner requested that KIIT University be included as a party to the proceedings.
The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 2, when submissions from both sides will be considered.
Meanwhile, social activist Pratap Mohanty has filed a public interest litigation (PIL), alleging that several aspects of the case remain unexamined and calling for deeper accountability.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also intervened, directing Odisha’s Chief Secretary to submit a detailed action taken report within 15 days of its November 11 notice.
The matter remains under judicial consideration, with the High Court set to review all submissions in the upcoming hearing.
