Odisha Govt Approves Direct Recruitment for 4,219 Constable Posts
In a major boost to law enforcement capacity, the Odisha government has sanctioned the direct recruitment of 4,219 constables for the state police force.
The decision follows a proposal from the State Police Headquarters and aims to address long-standing vacancies while ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection process.
The recruitment will strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the General Administration Department on September 22.
This SOP outlines detailed protocols for conducting competitive examinations, including secure question paper handling, OMR-based evaluations, and oversight by senior officials—particularly IG-level officers for police-related exams.
The Home Department’s Additional Secretary, Tarun Kumar Panda, confirmed the approval in a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The recruitment will also comply with Odisha’s reservation policy and other legal norms.
This move is part of a broader initiative to fill over 1.5 lakh vacancies across various state departments.
Some recruitments will be managed by dedicated agencies, while others will be handled directly by respective departments. The SOP was introduced to eliminate irregularities and standardise recruitment practices across the board.
With this decision, the Odisha Police is set to strengthen its operational capacity, ensuring better public safety and service delivery across the state.
