Bhubaneswar (OT Webdesk): In a commendable move to support the working class, the Odisha government has announced an increase in the daily wages of labourers across all skill categories. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the decision on April 29, 2025, emphasising the state’s commitment to uplifting the livelihoods of its workforce, particularly those in the unorganised sector.
The revised wages, effective immediately, include a ₹10 increment across all skill levels. The new daily wage rates are:
Unskilled Workers: ₹462 (previously ₹452)
Semi-Skilled Workers: ₹512 (previously ₹502)
Skilled Workers: ₹562 (previously ₹552)
Highly Skilled Workers: ₹612 (previously ₹602)
This adjustment aims to provide relief to workers facing escalating living costs and is expected to have a positive impact on the economic well-being of labourers throughout the state. The government’s proactive stance underscores its prioritisation of worker welfare, especially at a time when inflation continues to challenge household budgets.
Labour unions and worker representatives have widely welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a much-needed move to address the rising expenses.
