Odisha Govt Allocates Rs 252 Crore for Cold Storage Facilities Across 58 Subdivisions

In a major push toward agricultural infrastructure, the Odisha government has announced a Rs 252 crore investment to build cold storage units across 58 subdivisions over the next five years.

Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo made the announcement in the Assembly, emphasising the initiative’s role in reducing post-harvest losses and strengthening farmer welfare.

The project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. So far, 13 applications have been submitted via the Go Sugam portal, with proposals from Puri, Jajpur, and Subarnapur districts already receiving “Go Ahead” clearance.

Singh Deo also took aim at the opposition, questioning why cold storage infrastructure wasn’t prioritised during the tenure of former Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain.

He defended the BJP-led government’s record, citing the distribution of over 2 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser and dismissing recent protests as “artificial agitation.”

The Deputy CM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring cold storage access in every subdivision, positioning the move as a strategic step toward agricultural sustainability and rural development.
