Odisha Governor urges comprehensive plan to expand coffee cultivation in Koraput

Bhubaneswar, Sep 8 (UNI) Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati today urged the Coffee Board and the district administration to prepare comprehensive plans for expanding coffee plantations in Koraput district.

Interacting with stakeholders of coffee cultivation on the first day of his four-day tour to Koraput and Malkangiri districts, the Governor stressed the need to provide easier access for farmers to take up coffee cultivation.
He said such measures would encourage wider participation and enhance production in the region.

The Governor noted that since Koraput is a Scheduled Area, farmers often face challenges in securing suitable land for cultivation due to restrictions on land ownership and transfer.

To overcome this issue, he emphasised the need for a detailed survey to identify potential farmland, particularly the general category of private land.

This, he said, would enable interested coffee cultivators to gain rightful access to land, thereby boosting their interest and participation in coffee plantation activities.
