Odisha Governor urges banks to expand welfare scheme coverage

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20 (UNI) Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati today called upon banks to implement welfare schemes more proactively and ensure greater participation of beneficiaries.

On the second day of his visit to Bhadrak, the Governor interacted with the Lead Bank Manager and heads of banks after holding a comprehensive review meeting with the district administration at the Circuit House.

He highlighted that the Prime Minister has launched several schemes for the benefit of the poor, including PMJJBY, PMSBY, Atal Pension Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, PM MUDRA Yojana, and PM SVANidhi.

He urged bankers to extend loans more actively under these schemes to cover a larger section of people.

Explaining the objective of his district visits, the Governor said his tour to Bhadrak is part of a larger programme to cover all districts of Odisha.

“I intend to visit every district to understand local issues, review the implementation of programmes, and suggest improvements wherever required,” he said.

“My focus is also to assess how Government of India schemes are being implemented at the grassroots level,” the Governor added.

During the review meeting, Kambhampati carried out a detailed assessment of several key sectors.

He reviewed the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, under which rooftop solar systems are installed with government subsidies.

He noted that while the Centre provides subsidies, the Odisha government has extended additional support.

“I believe such state-level subsidy support for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not available anywhere else in the country,” he observed.
Odisha, the Governor said, has taken a lead in this regard. He also held detailed discussions on implementation challenges and ways to ensure maximum benefit for the people.
The Governor further lauded the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana and encouraged people to take advantage of it to promote agri-based entrepreneurship.

Reviewing the Jal Jeevan Mission, he said that while some mega projects are still pending, steps are being taken to address constraints and achieve the mission’s target of providing tap water to every household at the earliest.
