Odisha Governor Lauds Community-Led Conservation at Mangalajodi Wetland

Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, accompanied by First Lady Dr Jayashree Kambhampati, visited the renowned Mangalajodi wetland eco-tourism site in Khordha district.

The Governor praised the unique community-led model that has transformed the area into a hub of biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

During his visit, Dr Kambhampati took a boat ride across the wetland to observe thousands of migratory birds that flock to the banks of Chilika Lake each year.

He interacted with local residents and conservation groups, commending their efforts in protecting the fragile ecosystem while simultaneously creating income opportunities through eco-tourism.

Highlighting Mangalajodi as a shining example of grassroots participation, the Governor emphasised that community-driven initiatives are vital for balancing ecological preservation with socio-economic development.

He urged replication of similar models across Odisha to safeguard biodiversity hotspots and empower local communities.

The Governor’s remarks underscore the growing recognition of Mangalajodi as not only a birdwatcher’s paradise but also a testament to how collective action can secure a sustainable future.
