Odisha Governor Advocates Infant Nutrition and Breastfeeding at National Conference
Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 — Odisha Governor Dr. Raghubar Hari Babu Kambhampati underscored the critical importance of infant nutrition, care, and safety during the 15th National Conference of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and the 11th National Conference of the Human Milk Bank Association of India (HMB), held in Bhubaneswar.
Addressing healthcare professionals, policymakers, and maternal health advocates, the Governor spotlighted this year’s theme: “Celebrating the Legacy of Tomorrow: Embracing Sustainable Infant and Young Child Feeding and Breastfeeding Practices.” He emphasised that the first 1,000 days of a child’s life—from conception to the second birthday—are pivotal for physical growth, brain development, and lifelong well-being.
“When we invest in the nutrition of infants and young children, we are shaping the destiny of our society,” Dr Kambhampati said.
He praised breastfeeding as a source of love, immunity, and emotional connection, and lauded mothers who donate breast milk as symbols of shared motherhood and compassion.
While acknowledging India’s strides in reducing neonatal and infant mortality, the Governor pointed out persistent challenges such as malnutrition, lack of awareness, and social barriers.
He called for holistic solutions rooted in education, community empowerment, and empathetic healthcare.
Highlighting Odisha’s progress under the National Health Mission and community outreach programs, Dr. Kambhampati urged renewed commitment to child welfare and nutrition.
The event also featured addresses by national office-bearers of IYCF and HMB, with healthcare changemakers being felicitated for their contributions.
