Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 26: The Odisha government is committed to ensuring the smooth and disciplined conduct of the Rath Yatra in Puri, announced Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Wednesday. Chairing the second coordination meeting ahead of the annual festival, he emphasized the readiness to make tough decisions if necessary.
Harichandan stated that the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has finalized the ritual schedule for the upcoming Rath Yatra on July 7, and preparations will ensure the festival proceeds orderly.
“To maintain the schedule, we are prepared to make tough decisions,” affirmed the Law Minister, highlighting that the chariot-pulling ceremonies will proceed as planned. He assured that the chariots for Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath will be completed on time, with ample wood available and additional procurement options if needed.
Additionally, Harichandan expressed the government’s commitment to elevate Puri into an international pilgrimage destination, addressing past neglect. “Our government is dedicated to restoring Puri as a global pilgrimage center,” he asserted.
Regarding the opening of the Ratna Bhandar of the 12th-century shrine, the Minister indicated that a decision on this matter would be forthcoming within the next few days.
