Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Sept 23: The Odisha government has issued a gazette notification for a judicial inquiry into the alleged misbehavior and assault involving a woman and a serving Army officer at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar. The inquiry will be led by Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash, a retired High Court judge, who has been tasked with submitting a report within 60 days.
The formal notification from the Home Department highlights that both cases and counter-cases have been filed, indicating serious public concern. It emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952. The Commission will not only examine the events leading to the incidents but will also suggest measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future and ensure the safety and security of women.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the judicial inquiry following a high-level meeting that included two deputy chief ministers, the Revenue and Disaster Management minister, the Law minister, the advocate general, the chief secretary, and the Director General of Police. The CM has also requested the High Court to oversee the ongoing Crime Branch investigation.
