Odisha Government Introduces Breastfeeding Center at Maa Tarini Temple to Support Women Devotees
Ghatagaon, Keonjhar — In a progressive move to enhance inclusivity and maternal care at religious sites, the Odisha government has announced the establishment of a breastfeeding centre at the revered Maa Tarini temple.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida unveiled the initiative, emphasising the state’s commitment to providing safe and hygienic facilities for women devotees.
The temple, which draws thousands of pilgrims annually, will now offer a private space for lactating mothers to nurse their infants comfortably during their visit.
This development mirrors similar efforts at major pilgrimage destinations like the Jagannath Temple in Puri, signalling a broader push toward family-friendly religious tourism.
“This is not just about infrastructure—it’s about dignity, care, and accessibility,” Parida stated.
The centre aligns with national health goals and maternal welfare standards, and has been widely praised by local communities and health advocates.
The move is part of a larger strategy to improve amenities at religious sites across Odisha, especially for women and children. With this initiative, the Maa Tarini temple sets a precedent for other shrines to follow in creating inclusive spiritual spaces.
