Bhubaneswar Metro Expansion

Odisha Government Expands Bhubaneswar Metro Project to Cuttack’s Badamedi Medical

Bhubaneswar (OT Webdesk): In a major decision aimed at improving urban mobility, the Odisha government has announced the expansion of the Bhubaneswar Metro rail project.

The revised plan extends the metro route from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar all the way to Badamedi Medical in Cuttack, beyond the previously planned terminus at Trisulia.

Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra stated that this strategic expansion will enhance connectivity and ease travel between the twin cities. A specialised committee has been set up to study metro operations in other cities and prepare a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro project.

The project is expected to be completed by 2027, with soil testing already conducted at multiple locations. According to officials, the metro will be elevated up to 13 feet at certain points to accommodate city infrastructure.

The expansion is being undertaken with financial collaboration between the Odisha state government and the central government, ensuring adequate funding for its completion.

Citizens of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack can look forward to a modern metro system that will make daily commutes faster and more efficient.
