Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 11: On Thursday, the Odisha government transferred IPS officer Ashish Kumar Singh and appointed him as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department. A notification issued by the Home Department confirmed the transfer of Singh, a 2004-batch IPS officer, to his new role with immediate effect.
Earlier, on June 27, the Home Department had requested information regarding Ashish Singh’s whereabouts. The following day, Odisha DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi clarified that Singh had resumed duty in the special intelligence wing on June 3. Singh had taken sanctioned leave from May 4 to June 2 and returned to duty on June 3, as confirmed by the DGP.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had previously directed Singh to undergo a health check-up at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar following allegations from the BJP that he was favoring the BJD during elections despite being on sick leave. After a board of AIIMS submitted a report certifying Singh’s fitness, the Election Commission instructed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha to forward the AIIMS report to the Chief Secretary for necessary action against the IPS officer.
