Odisha Gears Up for Census 2027 with Digital Self‑Enumeration Drive
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Census 2027, introducing a digital self‑enumeration facility for the first time.
At the second State‑Level Coordination Committee meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, officials reviewed progress on the Houselisting & Housing Census 2026 and discussed strategies to ensure smooth operations.
Revenue & Disaster Management Principal Secretary Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee and Director of Census Operations Nikhil Pawan Kalyan presented updates on census activities, highlighting the importance of accuracy and efficiency.
Citizens can now submit household and individual details online between April 1 and 15, 2026, followed by door‑to‑door verification from April 16 to May 15, 2026.
On the opening day, nearly 17,000 people in Odisha completed self‑enumeration, signalling strong public participation.
District Collectors and government staff were urged to lead by example and encourage citizens to use the digital platform.
The meeting emphasised training of field staff, deployment of digital devices, and inter‑departmental cooperation to ensure reliable data collection.
Officials stressed that the digital‑first approach will enhance speed, transparency, and accuracy in the census process.
