Odisha Gears Up for Census 2027: SLCCC Meeting Charts Roadmap
Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: In a decisive step toward ensuring the smooth execution of Census 2027, the State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) convened under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner‑cum‑Additional Chief Secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh.
The meeting, held at Lokseva Bhawan, brought together senior officials from key departments, including Finance, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Revenue & Disaster Management, Forest & Environment, Rural Development, School & Mass Education, and the State Election Commission.
Collectors and Municipal Commissioners joined virtually, ensuring statewide participation.
Discussions focused on the House Listing Operations (HLO) scheduled for April–May 2026 and the Population Enumeration (PE) planned for February–March 2027.
Critical issues addressed included freezing administrative boundaries, deployment of enumerators and supervisors, financial norms, training of master and field trainers, and finalisation of forest villages, urban agglomerations, slums, and industrial towns.
Director of Census Operations, Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, elaborated on operational modalities, stressing meticulous planning for accurate data collection.
Singh underscored the importance of cooperation from all officials, describing Census 2027 as a cornerstone initiative for national planning in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to overcome logistical challenges and conduct the census transparently and efficiently, reflecting Odisha’s proactive role in India’s demographic mapping.
