Odisha Gains Rare-Earth Corridors, Waterway-5, and Eco-Tourism Boost in Union Budget 2026–27

The Union Budget 2026–27 has positioned Odisha at the forefront of India’s industrial and sustainable growth story.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced central support for rare-earth corridors in mineral-rich states, including Odisha, building on the rare-earth permanent magnet scheme launched last year.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed the move, highlighting its potential to accelerate industrial growth, generate employment, and align with sustainable development goals.

With Odisha’s mineral wealth and national backing, the state is expected to attract investments in semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries, strengthening India’s technology ecosystem.

Logistics received a major boost with the announcement of operationalising National Waterway-5.

This corridor will connect Talcher and Angul mineral hubs with Kalinganagar industrial clusters and Paradeep/Dhamra ports, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing industrial efficiency.

Eco-tourism also found a place in the budget, with initiatives to promote turtle trails at Gahirmatha Beach and Rushikulya River mouth.

These projects aim to balance conservation with livelihood opportunities, offering eco-friendly wildlife tourism experiences.

Together, these measures reinforce Odisha’s role as a hub for green logistics, mineral-based industries, and eco-tourism, strengthening its contribution to India’s sustainable development and economic resilience.
