Odisha frames rules for 10% job reservation for ex-Agniveers in state services

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Oct 4: The Odisha government announced on Friday the establishment of rules reserving 10% of jobs for ex-Agniveers in the state’s uniform services. Using the powers granted by Article 309 of the Constitution, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das formulated these rules concerning reservations in uniform services and the age limit for retired Agniveers, as detailed in a notification from the General Administration and Public Grievances (GA&PG) department.
The rules define “Retired Agniveers” as individuals who have completed four years of service in the armed forces under the Agniveers Recruitment Scheme of the Government of India. In contrast, “Retired Soldiers” are those defined in the Retired Soldiers (Employment in State Civil Service and Posts) Regulations of 1985.
“Uniform Service” encompasses various roles, including police, forest, forestry, fire services, or any other service designated by the state government over time.
According to the new regulations, a 10% horizontal reservation will be allocated for retired Agniveers in all ‘C’ and ‘D’ category posts filled through direct recruitment. This reservation is in addition to an existing 10% reservation for retired servicemen. Importantly, retired Agniveers must meet the minimum qualifications outlined for the position as per the relevant recruitment regulations on the date the Agniveers Certificate is issued.
