Odisha Farmer Dies After Grueling Paddy Sale Ordeal in Kendrapara

A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Kendrapara district, where a farmer’s struggle to sell his paddy crop ended in tragedy.

Trilochan Nayak of Junagadi village in Rajnagar block received a procurement token on January 16, but despite repeated visits over 40 days, his produce was not accepted at the designated cooperative society.

Later directed to deliver his stock to Ramchandi Mill, Nayak endured three days of waiting without proper food or shelter, while incurring heavy vehicle hire charges.

He faced deductions of 9 kg per quintal and additional unloading fees, compounding his financial losses.

After returning home, Nayak suffered chest pain and died, leaving his family devastated.

Relatives allege harassment and humiliation by procurement officials and mill staff drove him to fatal stress.

This case highlights systemic flaws in Odisha’s paddy procurement process, where arbitrary cuts, delays, and mismanagement continue to push farmers into distress.

While cooperative officials deny wrongdoing, the silence of government authorities has further fueled outrage among the farming community.
