Odisha Faces 94,485 Vacant Government Posts Despite Recent Recruitment Drive

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is grappling with a staggering 94,485 vacant government posts across departments, according to figures presented in the Assembly on February 12, 2026.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi revealed the data while responding to a question raised by legislator Chakramani Kanhar.

The School and Mass Education Department tops the list with 20,289 vacancies, followed by the Home Department with 16,032 and the Health Department with 10,457.

Despite 39,505 appointments made between June 2024 and February 2026, the state continues to face a severe manpower crunch.

Officials warn that the shortage is hampering administrative efficiency and service delivery, particularly in critical sectors like education and healthcare.

The issue has sparked debate in the Assembly, with calls for urgent measures to accelerate recruitment and streamline staffing processes.
