Odisha eyes ₹8,155 crore investment to boost destination weddings and MICE tourism

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa today) Jan 30: The Mohan Majhi government has secured investment proposals worth ₹8,155 crore, positioning Odisha as a prime destination for weddings and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism. These commitments were made during the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 on Wednesday, focusing on the development of luxury hotels, resorts, adventure parks, convention centers, and cruise and water sports projects.
Odisha aims to rival destinations like Rajasthan, Goa, and Kerala in hosting high-profile weddings and business events. Popular coastal towns such as Puri, Konark, and Gopalpur are being actively promoted for grand celebrations and corporate gatherings.
“Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure have long been underutilized. We are now showcasing the state as a premier location for MICE and destination weddings,” said Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida. She also highlighted the state’s plans to develop large-scale infrastructure for concerts, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of boosting India’s concert economy. Investors were assured of a seamless process in implementing their projects.
Key Investment Proposals:
₹2,387 crore for 23 resort projects in Koraput, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
₹3,792 crore for 47 hotel projects in Puri, Sambalpur, Paradip, Gopalpur, Ganjam, and Bhubaneswar.
₹246 crore for 30 motel and wayside amenity centers.
₹554 crore for nine water sports and cruise projects in Puri, Khurda, Chilika, Sundargarh, and Cuttack.
₹23 crore for four adventure sports projects in Koraput and Sundargarh.
₹1,060 crore for multi-utility hospitality centers.
₹58 crore for caravan tourism and ₹2.95 crore for camping tourism.
Odisha’s tourism department has also identified 5,570 acres of land across 15 priority destinations for development, with land verification and acquisition already underway, said Tourism Secretary Balwant Singh.
With these strategic investments, Odisha is set to emerge as a premier tourism and event destination, driving significant economic growth in the sector.
