Odisha Extends Deadline for “No PUC, No Fuel” Policy by One Month

Bhubaneswar: Vehicle owners in Odisha have been granted temporary relief as the state government extended the deadline for enforcing the “No PUC, No Fuel” policy.

Originally set to begin on January 1, 2026, the rule will now come into effect from February 1, 2026.

Under this directive, petrol pumps across the state will refuse to supply fuel to vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.

The move is part of a broader initiative to strengthen road safety and curb vehicular emissions.

Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena announced the one‑month grace period, allowing vehicle owners to renew essential documents—including Registration Certificate (RC), Fitness Certificate, PUC, and insurance—without penalty until the end of January.

The State Transport Authority (STA) emphasised that strict enforcement will begin in February, with awareness campaigns rolled out to educate the public.

The directive, backed by provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, highlights the government’s commitment to reducing pollution and protecting the environment.

Citizens are urged to get their vehicles tested at authorised pollution centres to avoid inconvenience once the rule takes full effect.
