Odisha Excise Dept Seizes ₹5.18 Cr Contraband in Three Days
The Odisha Excise Department has intensified its Special Enforcement Drive, seizing contraband worth ₹5.18 crore between December 26 and 28, 2025.
Officials registered 581 cases and arrested 200 individuals, including eight under the NDPS Act. Seventeen vehicles were confiscated during the operations.
The crackdown yielded 27,689 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor, 1,097 bulk litres of duty‑paid liquor, 2,73,860 bulk litres of fermented wash, and 29,050 kg of gur wash.
Additionally, enforcement teams recovered 720 kg of mahua flowers, 52 kg of bhang, 38 kg of ganja, and 25 grams of brown sugar.
Excise units in Koraput and Malkangiri also registered two cases of illegal hemp cultivation.
Officials highlighted that the cumulative figures underscore the organised nature of illicit liquor and narcotics operations across the state.
The drive, which began on December 20, will continue with a focus on dismantling production centres, transport networks, and supply chains.
