Odisha Emerges Champion in National Search & Rescue Skills Competition | ODRAF Triumph
Odisha has achieved a landmark victory as the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) secured first place in the prestigious National Advanced Search & Rescue Skills Competition.
Andhra Pradesh finished as runner-up in the event.
This triumph holds deep significance for Odisha, which once relied on external support during the devastating 1999 Super Cyclone.
In response to that crisis, ODRAF was established in 2001 to strengthen the state’s disaster preparedness.
Over the years, the force has evolved into one of India’s most capable disaster response units, equipped to handle floods, cyclones, industrial accidents, and nationwide rescue operations.
Experts attribute ODRAF’s success to consistent investment in training, modern equipment, and rigorous drills.
The championship win symbolises Odisha’s transformation from vulnerability to resilience, positioning the state as a national leader in disaster management.
