Odisha earns Rs.3,232.43 cr excise revenue till August: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Sep 20 (UNI) Odisha has collected Rs. 3,232.43 crore in excise revenue till the end of August in the current financial year, Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed the State Assembly on Friday.
Replying to a question from BJD member Dhruba Charan Sahu, the Minister said the state had collected Rs. 4,053.51 crore in 2020-21, Rs 5,528.41 crore in 2021-22, Rs 6,455.05 crore in 2022-23, Rs 7,216.99 crore in 2023-24, and Rs 8. ,195.53 crore in 2024-25.
Harichandan further said steps were being taken to curb the illegal trade of drugs by banning their sale and conducting regular raids by district-level excise officials along with Intelligence Bureau personnel posted in the three divisions of Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Berhampur.
Excise & IB units, along with district mobile squads, are carrying out special raids to check the sale of smuggled and spurious liquor. Cases are being registered against bootleggers, the minister added.
During 2025-26, a total of 27,821 IDL (illicit distilled liquor) cases were registered, and 13,493 people were arrested up to September 15, he informed the House.
