Odisha Deputy CM Urges Political Restraint in Teen Burn Case
(OT Webdesk)Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo has appealed to political parties to refrain from politicising the tragic death of a 15-year-old girl from Puri district, who succumbed to severe burn injuries at AIIMS Delhi on August 2.
The teenager, who sustained over 70% burns on July 19 near the Bhargavi River, was initially treated locally before being airlifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and later to Delhi.
Despite intensive care and skin grafting, she could not survive.
Singh Deo emphasised that the state government provided full support from the outset, including medical transfers and treatment. “The victim’s father has acknowledged the assistance and requested that the matter not be dragged into political controversy,” he stated.
The Odisha Police, meanwhile, reported no evidence of third-party involvement, contradicting the FIR filed by the victim’s mother alleging abduction and attempted murder by three unidentified men.
As the village mourns, security has been deployed and preparations are underway for the girl’s traditional burial.
The bereaved family has requested privacy, while civil society and political leaders continue to demand a transparent investigation.
