Odisha Deletes 7.68 Lakh Names in Voter List Overhaul
Bhubaneswar: In a sweeping revision of the electoral roll, Odisha has deleted 7,68,521 names to ensure accuracy and credibility in the voter list.
The exercise uncovered 1,55,318 individuals holding voter ID cards in more than one location.
According to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the deletions were carried out for multiple reasons: 2,03,396 voters were removed due to death, 4,08,132 due to migration, and 2,646 for other irregularities.
The revision also saw 5,67,034 new applications for inclusion in the voter list. District-wise, Sundargarh recorded the highest deletions (1,44,726), followed by Cuttack (74,881), Ganjam (47,989), Angul (37,927), and Puri (36,679).
The Chief Minister emphasised that the updated voter list strengthens the democratic process by eliminating duplication and irregularities, ensuring fair representation for citizens.
