Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 (UNI) Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena today instructed concerned departments to work in close coordination and expedite the construction of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Jatni in Khurda district.

Chairing a review meeting on the project’s progress, the Chief Secretary said the facility would be the first modern cancer hospital in Eastern India.
The Odisha Government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, in 2022 to establish this hospital and research institute.

The meeting also discussed the hospital’s request for additional land to construct wider approach roads and ensure peripheral development.
It was suggested that the Revenue Department, Public Works Department, and Khurda district administration work together to resolve the issue.
Revenue Department Additional Chief Secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh informed that the proposed facility will have 294 beds.

He emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to fulfil various requirements for the project, including land acquisition. Detailed discussions were also held on the construction of a pediatric cancer unit, drainage facilities, uninterrupted power supply, and a dharamshala for patients’ relatives.

The Chief Secretary said once completed, the hospital will provide advanced treatment to cancer patients from across Odisha and neighbouring states.

Dr. Lingaraj Nayak, Cancer Specialist from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, along with his team, and senior officials from Urban Development, Construction, Power, and other departments attended the meeting.

The meeting further deliberated on the importance of population-based cancer registration in Odisha, survey mechanisms, treatment facilities, and future challenges.
