Odisha Cracks Down on Vehicle Emissions: No Fuel Without Valid PUC Certificate
In a decisive move to combat rising air pollution, the Odisha government has directed oil marketing companies to deny petrol and diesel to vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
The Commerce and Transport Department issued letters to all fuel stations across the state, instructing them to strictly enforce this rule.
The initiative, overseen by Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena and Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, aims to ensure compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and improve air quality across Odisha’s districts.
To strengthen enforcement, e-detection systems at toll gates have been upgraded to verify PUC certificates digitally.
Vehicle owners are urged to carry valid PUC certificates at all times and avoid using polluting vehicles.
Non-compliance may attract legal action, as the government intensifies efforts to curb emissions and promote cleaner air statewide.
This landmark step is expected to significantly reduce vehicular pollution, reinforcing Odisha’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable transport practices.
