Odisha Coast Guard Expansion: New Ships, Jetties, and Drone Unit to Secure Ports

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has announced a significant expansion of its operations across Odisha, reinforcing maritime safety and coastal security.

Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan confirmed that Coast Guard ships will soon operate from Gopalpur Port, while Paradip Port will see a substantial increase in vessel deployment.

Authorities also revealed plans to establish jetty facilities and Coast Guard branches at Gopalpur and Dhamra ports. A dedicated drone unit will be set up at Dhamra to strengthen surveillance and anti‑smuggling efforts.

These measures form part of a broader proposal submitted to the Chief Minister of Odisha, highlighting the urgency of safeguarding the state’s coastline.

Recent drills off Paradip underscored the importance of search and rescue operations, preventing infiltration, and intercepting smuggling networks, with state agencies actively coordinating alongside Coast Guard teams.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has signed agreements for Gopalpur Port expansion and a new jetty near Paradip, reflecting a parallel push to boost maritime infrastructure.

Together, these initiatives mark a coordinated effort between the Coast Guard and the state government to secure Odisha’s ports and coastline for the future【edge_current_page_context】.
