Odisha CM Visits AIIMS Bhubaneswar as FM College Student Battles for Life
Bhubaneswar, July 13(OT Webdesk): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is slated to visit AIIMS Bhubaneswar to oversee the treatment of a female student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Balasore, who sustained 90–95% burn injuries in an apparent suicide attempt.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised pressing concerns over alleged institutional harassment.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling confirmed the Chief Minister’s visit, stating that Majhi will meet with AIIMS doctors and the student’s family.
AIIMS Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas noted that the next 24 to 48 hours are critical. The student is currently on ventilator support, with severely damaged kidneys and lungs.
In response, AIIMS has set up an eight-member specialist panel comprising experts in critical care, surgery, nephrology, pulmonology, and anaesthesiology for round-the-clock monitoring.
A high-level inquiry initiated by the Higher Education Department is underway to determine institutional failures.
The college principal and the concerned head of department have been suspended, with the latter now in police custody following allegations of intimidation and mental harassment.
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and MLA Babu Singh joined Mahaling in visiting the hospital, assuring comprehensive government support for the student’s care and investigation.
