Odisha CM Unveils Dharanidhar Naik Statue in Keonjhar, Honoring Tribal Hero

Keonjhar witnessed a historic moment today as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a full-sized statue of legendary freedom fighter Dharanidhar Naik at Nekada Ghar Chowk, Jamunalia.

The event fulfilled a promise made earlier this year, honouring Naik’s pivotal role in the famous Dharani Meli rebellion against the oppressive monarchy.

Addressing the gathering, the CM hailed Naik as a beacon of inspiration whose life embodied resistance, resilience, and spiritual pursuit. “Keonjhar’s soil is revolutionary soil. Dharanidhar Naik’s name stands foremost among our heroes,” Majhi declared.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Padma Shri awardee Daitari Naik, fondly known as the “Canal Man,” who single-handedly dug a canal from Gonasika Hill to his village using just a hoe and crowbar.

His extraordinary feat, recognised nationally in 2019, was praised as a symbol of self-confidence and perseverance.

The unveiling was attended by dignitaries, including Padma Shri Daitari Naik, MP Ananta Nayak, several MLAs, descendants of Dharanidhar Naik, and representatives of the Bhuyan community.

The event reinforced Keonjhar’s enduring legacy in India’s freedom struggle and inspired future generations to upholdthe values of justice and resilience.
