Odisha CM Steps In to Rescue Abducted Youth from Sudan
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: The Odisha government has sought urgent intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) following the abduction of Adarsha Behera, a 36-year-old Odia youth working in Sudan.
Behera, employed at Sokrate Plastic Factory since 2022, was reportedly kidnapped by members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from Al-Fashir, nearly 1000 km from Khartoum.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed senior officials to take all necessary steps to ensure Behera’s safe return.
Acting swiftly, the state’s Intelligence Director has written to the MEA and the Resident Commissioner in Delhi, requesting coordination with the Indian Embassy in Sudan.
The Indian Ambassador in Sudan has confirmed initiating discussions with Sudanese authorities to secure Behera’s release.
A video circulating on social media shows Behera in RSF custody, being questioned and asked to praise RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal civil war since 2023, with violent clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF displacing millions and claiming thousands of lives.
Behera’s abduction highlights the growing risks faced by Indian nationals working in conflict zones abroad.
