Odisha CM Sets Ambitious Irrigation Goal During Water Resources Department Review
Bhubaneswar, Oct 31 — Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted a comprehensive review of the Water Resources Department at Rajiv Bhawan today, outlining a bold vision for agricultural transformation through smart water governance.
Majhi began his visit by inspecting the State Hydrological Data Centre, where he examined real-time data on reservoirs and river systems. Emphasising the role of technology in efficient water management, he urged engineers and staff across subdivisions to work with precision and dedication.
A key highlight of the review was the announcement of a major irrigation target: 15 lakh hectares of farmland to be covered by 2030.
The CM stressed the importance of ensuring water reaches the tail-end of canal systems and called for smarter, more responsive departmental operations.

In discussions with Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Chief Engineer Chandrasekhar Padhi, and other senior officials, Majhi reviewed ongoing schemes and emphasised the timely execution of all water-related projects.
He reiterated that robust infrastructure and data systems are essential to meet future challenges, especially in the face of climate variability.
The visit underscored the state’s commitment to sustainable water management and its broader goal of boosting agricultural productivity and disaster resilience.
