Odisha CM Reviews ₹210 Crore Mahanadi Riverfront Project in Cuttack

Cuttack: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reviewed the ambitious Mahanadi River Front Development Project, aimed at transforming 426 acres of riverbank into a vibrant mix of green spaces and tourism hubs.

With an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore, the project is designed to balance ecological preservation with cultural and recreational development.

According to the plan, 284 acres will be dedicated to a green belt in line with National Green Tribunal guidelines, while 142 acres will host tourism and festive activities.

Proposed features include an Odisha Haat, Heritage Village, picnic areas, interpretation centres, food courts, landscaped gardens, and beautified water bodies.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the riverfront should evolve into a national-level tourist attraction, drawing inspiration from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Riverfront model.

He also directed officials to integrate flood protection measures with tourism initiatives, ensuring safety and sustainability.

Future expansions will include beautification of the Dhabaleswar Temple area, pathways near the National Law University, and the introduction of cruise services.

The review meeting was attended by Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, and senior officials from the CMO, Housing & Urban Development, Water Resources, Finance, and Cuttack Municipal Corporation.
