Bhubaneswar, June 10, (OT Webdesk): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has swiftly suspended IAS officer Dhiman Chakma after his arrest for allegedly accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe.
Chakma, serving as the Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district, was caught red-handed by vigilance officials on June 8, 2025. The bribe was reportedly part of a larger ₹20 lakh demand to shield a businessman’s stone crusher unit from regulatory action.
Further investigations uncovered ₹47 lakh in unaccounted cash from Chakma’s official residence, intensifying suspicions of deeper corruption. Following his arrest, Chakma was presented before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna, which denied his bail and remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
The case has sparked widespread concerns over bureaucratic integrity in Odisha, with the Vigilance Department continuing its probe. Officials are investigating possible links to other individuals involved in corrupt practices. The swift action by the Odisha CM signals a strict stance against corruption in the state’s administrative ranks.
