Odisha CM Mobilizes 17 Districts for Flood Preparedness Amid Bay of Bengal Weather Alert
In response to a low-pressure system forming over the north and central Bay of Bengal, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi convened a high-level video conference with collectors from 17 districts to review flood preparedness strategies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kalahandi as high-risk zones, while 14 other districts have been placed on alert.
Majhi directed district administrations to activate 24/7 control rooms and ensure real-time updates from vulnerable areas.
Urban local bodies were instructed to prepare drainage infrastructure to mitigate urban flooding, while engineers were tasked with monitoring embankments and weak points in river and canal systems.
To bolster emergency response, ODRAF and fire services have been deployed in low-lying and landslide-prone regions. Field staff in hilly districts were advised to remain vigilant and identify critical zones.
The meeting was attended by senior ministers and top officials, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, and IMD Director, underscoring the state’s proactive stance in minimising the impact of extreme weather events.
