Odisha CM Majhi: Talks with Chhattisgarh on Mahanadi Dispute Continue
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reaffirmed that discussions with Chhattisgarh over the long‑standing Mahanadi water dispute are ongoing at multiple levels.
He revealed that three secretary‑level meetings in New Delhi and eleven joint technical committee meetings have already taken place, reflecting a sustained effort to resolve the issue.
Majhi emphasised that Odisha has formed its own technical committee to strengthen its position before the tribunal while continuing dialogue with Chhattisgarh.
He noted that while water distribution talks are progressing, detailed data on agricultural impact for the 2025–26 rabi season cannot be shared as the matter remains sub judice.
Highlighting the importance of the river, Majhi described the Mahanadi as Odisha’s lifeline and assured that the government is treating the dispute with utmost seriousness.
Since 2024, Odisha has taken multiple steps to break the stalemate, aiming to safeguard the state’s water interests while maintaining constructive engagement with its neighbour.
