Odisha CM Majhi Receives Key Fiscal Roadmap from Sixth State Finance Commission

Bhubaneswar, August 18 (OT Webdesk)— In a significant move toward decentralised governance, the Sixth State Finance Commission of Odisha, chaired by Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, submitted its interim report to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan today.

The report outlines strategic recommendations to enhance the financial autonomy and service delivery capabilities of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Key proposals include streamlining the allocation of state-collected taxes, duties, tolls, and fees to ensure equitable distribution across local bodies.

The delegation also met Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati earlier in the day, reinforcing the constitutional mandate under Articles 243-I and 243-Y to empower grassroots institutions.

The interim report will be forwarded to the Sixteenth Finance Commission for further evaluation, with a final report expected after deeper analysis of local governance challenges. This submission marks a pivotal step in Odisha’s journey toward robust, transparent, and responsive local governance.

The meeting with the Chief Minister was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Drinking Water Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Public Enterprises Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shaswat Mishra, Principal Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Finance Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, and Director of Panchayati Raj Vineet Bhardwaj.
