Odisha CM Majhi Launches Biswabhusan Harichandan’s Landmark Books
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled two seminal works authored by veteran politician and former Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan at a ceremony in Bhubaneswar.
The first book, E Mati Katha Kahe (Odia), compiles 30 essays reflecting on themes such as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, democracy, Odia identity, world peace, and Lord Jagannath’s Nabakalebara festival.
The second, Bakshi Jagabandhu: The Great Commander (English), highlights the 1817 Paika Rebellion led by Bakshi Jagabandhu, which Majhi described as India’s first war of independence, predating the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny.
Harichandan, founding president of BJP’s Odisha unit, has served five terms as MLA and four as cabinet minister. A lawyer by profession, he was known for his fearless defence of democracy during the Emergency.
His tenure as Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh saw contributions to education, health, agriculture, and social security.
The Chief Minister praised Harichandan’s principles, oratory skills, and decades of service, drawing parallels with historical figures like Bakshi Jagabandhu and Gopabandhu Das.
He also expressed hope for an English translation of E Mati Katha Kahe to reach a wider readership.
The event attracted dignitaries, intellectuals, students, and political leaders, with optimism that these works will enrich scholarship and deepen public understanding of Odisha’s heritage and India’s freedom struggles.
